Improve Golf Swing And Flexibility With Stretching Procedure

Poor flexibility can hinder your golf swing, and correspondingly can poorly affect your golf game. The game of golf requires the player to swing the club in a fluid range of motion, and though many golfers are aware of the benefits of stretching, not many execute the stretches prior to a game according to PGA Tour. Stretching improves your flexibility, and relaxes the muscles used while playing. A short 10-minute stretch before a game can greatly improve your swing, and hopefully your scorecard.

Posterior Shoulder Capsule Stretch
  1. Lay on your side with your legs straight, on the floor, with the right hip joint touching the floor.
  2. Position your upper right arm on the floor, perpendicular to the shoulder joint (shoulder capsule), then bend your arm 90 degrees, keeping the upper right arm, from elbow to shoulder, on the floor.
  3. Grab your right wrist with the left hand, then begin slowly pushing the right forearm to the floor. Keep pressing until you feel the stretch, then stop and hold the stretch for 30 seconds.
  4. Repeat the process three more times, then switch to the other shoulder and repeat.

Hip/Calf/Torso Club Stretch
  1. Hold your golf club out in front of you with both hands.
  2. Place your right foot out in front, just underneath the golf club.
  3. Slowly bend your left leg down until the knee touches the floor. You should start to feel a stretch in your right calf, and left quad.
  4. Rotate your torso side-to-side slowly, while holding the stretch for 30-seconds. Repeat this stretch three times, then repeat with the left foot placed in front, or alternate left and right between stretches.
